One Note

OneNote is a cool program that was created a few years ago that allows you to keep track of all of your teacher "stuff" anywhere.  Personally this is impractical to me because we have other free technologies that allow us the similar results that are used daily in my school.

I recently got a smartphone and can keep track of additional ideas in a note feature.  I love google Drive as well and there are even resources available to me using FEEDLY.   I teach in the high school choral classroom and I can see where this might be more beneficial in a general music classroom.

I watched the tutorial ate the one note website but wasn't able to download the program due to some tech issues with my computer.

Jumping on Board With Technology

This week’s reading caused me to reflect on what I have learned in taking this course, Technology for Music Learning.  Here are some of my reflections.

  1. I am  now empowered to use a music program like Noteflight or MuseScore, and can actually use these programs to electronically write a vocal warm-up, a simple song, or rearranging voice parts.  Finale was overwhelming to me and it’s great to have some new user friendly tools.

  1. Setting up a Feedly account has been very beneficial.  It is great being able to go to one site and access many blogs and free music and education resources online.

  1. I now have a Smartphone and instead of feeling like “Technology Should Not Rule the World” I am embracing some tools that will make life more simple and organized.  The biggest tool I will be regularly using is Google Calendar.  Before having a Smartphone, I kept a paper calendar in order to keep track of upcoming school projects, concerts, and my personal life.  Over the next few weeks I will full transfer to using Google.

  1. I would like to purchase SmartMusic and use it as tool for teaching sightsinging in my choir classroom.

Things I already do and plan on continuing in my classroom:
  1. Using Google Calendar to set up projects.

  1. Using Facebook groups as a way to communicate with my students.

  1. Email groups-I specifically use this as a way to communicate information with parents and students.

  1. Email voice parts by recording them on an app on my iPad.

  1. Using google forms for students to submit surveys.

  1. Using google docs as a way for students to submit work.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this class.  It has allowed me to explore technologies that I wasn’t familiar with and get comfortable with them.  Each project has given me more knowledge that I have or will be applying in my own classroom.  What a practical course!
